Origin

Biodanza was created more than 48 years ago by ProfessorRolando Toro Araneda, anthropologist, psychologist, poet and artist, born in Chile in 1924.

Rolando Toro Araneda held the chair of Medical Anthropology at the University of Santiago in Chile and directed numerous works on the phenomenology of creativity and on altered states of consciousness.

Intensely concerned with human becoming, touched by the wars and atrocities witnessed by the century, Rolando Toro Araneda felt how the domination of rationality and language had inhibited the human being's ability to be in the emotional present, sensitive and affective of life. And how much, thus, he cut himself off from his essence and from life. It was during his research on alternative methods of treatment in a psychiatric environment in the 1960s in Chile, and thanks to his observations on the effects of music and movement on health, that he had the intuition of the systemBiodanza.

During this period, he created the “International Biocentric Foundation”. In 1997, Rolando Toro Araneda returned to Chile, from where he continued to coordinate the international activities of Biodanza and to actively develop relations with the scientific world and research.

Rolando Toro Araneda left to join the stars on February 16, 2010.
