The affected population

More than 20 million people suffer from chronic pain in France, of which about1.2 to 3 million are affected by fibromyalgia. This figure is considered to be largely underestimated since more than 8 years are needed to be recognized as having fibromyalgia.

Disability

2 out of 3 patients are directly handicapped by pain in their physical activities, their sleep, and in their activities outside the home.

Gradual loss of social ties

Some facts about fibromyalgia:​

  • between 2 and 8% of French people are affected by fibromyalgia

  • 80% of people with fibromyalgia are women;

  • 90% of patients are under 60 years old

  • women  between 30 and 50 years are the most affected (70 to 90% of patients)

  • about 7% of children may have fibromyalgia
